The Last Five Years is a fresh and contemporary musical from Tony-Award winning composer Jason Robert Brown. The Last Five Years presents a young couple's romance in a new and exciting way.
The Last Five Years opened at Off-Broadway's Minetta Lane Theatre on March 3rd, 2002 and will make its debut at San Pedro's Warner Grand Theatre on August 7, 2009.
Jason Robert Brown's storyline moves in opposite directions at the same time. Ray Buffer and Marla McClure essay the roles of Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hyatt, a couple who meet, fall in love, get married, and then divorce, all in a short period of five years. However, Jamie's story progresses in a forward order from the time of the couple's first meeting to their painful breakup, while Cathy's memories are presented backward, moving from the end of their relationship to its first hopeful moments. Funny and uplifting, the show captures some of the most heartbreaking and universally felt moments of modern romance.
The Relevant Stage Theatre Company at Warner Grand Theater will present The Last Five Years for three weekends in August, 2009
