About Disney's "High School Musical"

High School Musical is an Emmy Award-winning American television film. Upon its release on January 20, 2006, it was the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOM) ever produced, with a television sequel released on August 17, 2007 and a feature film sequel planned for release in October of 2008. The film's soundtrack was the best-selling album in the United States for 2006. The movie was shot almost entirely in the Wasatch Front in Utah (namely Salt Lake City and Murray).

With a plot described by the author and numerous critics as a modern adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, High School Musical is a story about two high school juniors from rival cliques: Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), a beautiful and shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and as a result, divide the school. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to "stick with the status quo."

Part of The Relevant Stage's mission is to cultivate an appreciation of the arts in youth. That is why youth 18 and under can always see any of our productions for only $5 at all times.

We also offer student-and-educator-only performances at Warner Grand Theatre.

Over 1200 students from San Pedro, Long Beach and Los Angeles came to see our production of Acts of Desperation which addressed bullying, teen suicide and school shootings.

This summer, TRS will introduce its Musical Theatre Camp for Teens, and in 2009, TRS will begin to tour productions into the schools.
